It's not a bill - The Brexit 'bill'

The level of disinformation spread in the run up to the Brexit referendum was massive. The leave campaign told lies like Donald Trump on esctasy. Even now, with no votes to win and both major parties settled on delivering Brexit the lies continue to flow from the architects of Brexit.

The most recent controversy was the so called 'Brexit Bill'. The amount that the UK will pay on it's exit from the EU was been as high as £100billion, nearly twice our annual deficit, but more conservative calculations have it somewhere around the £15 billion mark. The lie repeated this time is that we have no legal obligation to pay. This is nonsense. It is nonsense to call it a leaving bill.

And whilst Keir Starmer and Boris Johnson have conceded that we will have to pay some money there are some Brexiteers who's difficult relationship with reality continues.

Jacob Rees Mogg stated "There is no logic to this figure, legally we owe nothing."

With Mr Mogg's recent statements about his belief in following the teachings of the Catholic church it would be ideal to remind him of the Bible Quote: 'Thou Shall not lie'

The reason the UK will have to pay the EU money on the leaving is due to the nature of EU funding cycles. We have committed to honoring funding contracts right up till 2020. Therefore we are legally obliged to pay such money to the EU up to 2020. Brexit or no Brexit we would be paying this money. The Conservative MPs know this, but instead they brand honoring our pledges as paying extra money. A punishment, or blackmail as Liam Fox recently claimed.

The leaving bill is for lawyers to work out, not politicians. We must pay it as we have a legal obligation to do so.
